If someone were to ask you – or even tell you – what they think the benefits of working at home are, the list would probably consist of a few things. This list would likely include shorter commute, more family time, fewer distractions, and financial savings.
But, what you probably won’t think about – and what nobody will tell you – are the REAL reasons and benefits that entice people of all ages and skill sets to work at home. These are the things work-at-home individuals don’t really want you to know, because then you would want to become a work-at-home person yourself, creating more competition for current work-at-homers. We, however, enjoy sharing the wealth and want to tell you about the extraordinary benefits of working from home.
Perhaps, the greatest benefit to working at home is wearing your pajamas to the office. Not only do you save money because you do not have to purchase dress clothes or uniforms to wear to work, but you get to be comfortable all the time. In fact, there are some work-at-homers who dedicate their career to working in pajamas. (Check out this site!) If you find casual comfort to be your ideal work wear, then working at home in your pajamas is definitely a benefit.
Bad Hair Days Don’t Matter
Do you remember when you were in high school or even middle school, and it always seemed as though you had a bad hair day on an important day? Well, for telecommuters, bad hair days are unimportant. No one will see you, so the fact that your hair is standing on end five days a week really won’t matter to anyone. Except maybe your spouse.
Working from home has many benefits, including unlimited breaks. Now, you do actually have to WORK if you want to get PAID, but you can probably have the freedom to take a break when you feel like it so long as you are completing the tasks you are hired to accomplish. This is especially beneficial when you’re reaching the end of a deadline and the only thing keeping you going is ALL OF THE COFFEE.
Avoid Co-Worker Squabbles & Gossip
Essentially, peace and quiet is what we are talking about here. If you walk into any office or any company you will likely hear what so-and-so is up to, or who is doing what that they shouldn’t be doing. Fortunately, when you work at home, you really do not interact face-to-face with your co-workers. You have more time to focus on your tasks, which allows you to get assignments finished quickly since you are not caught up in today’s office gossip. The downside: you are not caught up on the office gossip…so there’s that.
Get Your Housework Done
One of our favorite benefits to working at home is getting housework done before the weekend (aka freedom) sets in. The ability to throw laundry in the washer, then the dryer, fold it, and put it away while taking one of your above-mentioned break’ really is beneficial. You can put dishes in the dishwasher, and maybe even start dinner if you are feeling really ambitious, all while keeping those business-related plates spinning at top speed.
Do you have any other killer benefits to telecommuting that you would like to add to the list? Leave a comment and let us know; we would love to hear from you!
